After Enzo

An exploration with leather as a material, using heat and an internal structure to create curves.

We spent a lot of time experimenting with scrap chrome tan upholstery leather given to us by Coakley and Cox. Highlights included, using a soldering iron to create folds and patterns, layering the leather to create leather ply, and using a vacuum former to create shapes.

When adding intense heat to the stretched leather, it became very taut and would form curves based on a structure underneath.

We decided to use an existing chair design by Enzo Mari to highlight this new upholstery process.
