Cardboard !
Using a traditionally temporary material, this stool invites you to destroy it over time. This was a material led, lockdown project, which culminated in a short video imagining the cardboard stools lifespan.
In collaboration with Sonny Small.
London, 2021
By the end of the stool’s life, it will look completely different, to both it’s beginning and any other stool from the same batch due to the organic way in which it is destroyed.
The internal colouring of the stool creates intrigue as the stool peels, and by layering all the card in one direction, the sheets all peel outward creating a new shape and form. It uses the cardboard’s grain and structural properties to create great strength, yet also exploits its weaknesses of easy destruction.

Some exploratory highlights of the project include: discovering that the grain going downwards was much more structurally sound, scoring sheets created curves, and embossing the cardboard by compressing the air between the layers could then be used to bend sheets.
